Have you read the poem, A Dog Sits Waiting?   Well, that dog was Reggie!  This beautiful, young Doberman/Ridgeback mix sat waiting for the worthless piece of humanity who dumped him alongside a man-made canal just outside of Baytown!  Reggie sat waiting for AT LEAST 3 weeks that we know about.  And those three weeks were in late December and early January... he was dumped with no shelter, food or fresh water... just dumped like so much unwanted debris.

People saw him sitting, waiting, day-after-day-after-day, and some of them were nice enough to start to leave him food and one even provided a makeshift shelter to help block the cold wind and rain a little bit.  But, no one could persuade him to come close enough to rescue him.

By the time we were notified about this dog's plight, the work crews had taken away the wooden pallets you see in the above picture and Reggie's makeshift shelter was in the dirt and pretty ragged.  Also, Harris County Animal Control had left a note telling people to stop feeding this dog, because they were going to try to capture him since someone had called them to pick him up.

We tried to coax him to us.  No such luck... after all, he was waiting for the human that he knew and trusted would come back for him.  The one who dumped him there to spend the long cold days and freezing nights alone and hungry, but hopeful.  Reggie never lost faith in his human... Too bad that particular human isn't worthy of such devotion!

Reggie had to be trapped in order to get him to safety.

He was loaded, trap and all, to be transported to his foster home.

As with the other cases where we've had to trap, the moment human hands touched him, Reggie immediately reverted to the domesticated animal he was before... craving human touch and love.

At his foster  home, Reggie met the two resident Boxers that he will share life with until he can find his own home,

and they (particularly the white Boxer) became playmates.

Reggie got his name because of the ridge in his coat along his back...

We couldn't call him Ridgie, but Reggie is a real name!  This is Reggie now... healthy, happy, loved and enjoying life.

This beautiful boy is young, somewhere from 9 to 12 months old, and is as spirited and curious as a young, intelligent dog should be.  Reggie weighs about 45 pounds, but may gain a pound or two as he matures.   He is heartworm negative and receiving prevention, fully vaccinated, neutered, very handsome and obviously a creature devoted to his human(s), whether they deserve that honor or not!

If you have the commitment and love to bring this wonderful dog into your home forever,

you will be rewarded with total devotion and joy for many, many years.

Reggie has paid his dues and he now deserves all things good!

November 2009

Reggie went from being abandoned, homeless and afraid on a rural canal last January to proudly being

escorted by his owner to a game in Minute Maid Park this Summer!

Talk about,  "You've come a long way, Baby!"
